Gus Van Sant was born in Louiseville, Kentucky on July 24th, 1953. Van Sant attended the Rhode Island School of Design where he got a degree in film.

He made several short films after he completed school, and even did some sort of work (not on the creative end) in the 1970´s classic The Groove Tube.
