BRIEF INFORMATION
Global History has become a topic of central interest in recent years. Global History deals with the historical processes which occurred in the various regions of the world and the various groups of people inhabiting these regions of the world. With the help of concepts like interaction, interconnectivity, and condensation Global History describes and analyzes in which way, by which intensity, and when regions and social groups around the world were, and are, connected with one another. History is conceived both as an element and as result of local, regional, national, and global developments, conflicts, actors, and interests that are interconnected in manifold and frequently hierarchical ways.
Eurocentrism in history is replaced by a multifocal and global perspective. Diversity and variety in a global historical view turn out to be historical processes.
The Masters Program Global History at the University of Vienna starts in the winter term 05/06. It admits students who hold a bachelor or more advanced degree in the humanities, in social and cultural studies or law from an approved university or similar educational institution. The Masters Course in Global History at the University of Vienna requires the good command of two languages (besides German).
The Masters Course at Vienna is part of the European Masters Course in “Global Studies – A European Perspective”, which is supported by the Erasmus Mundus mobility Programme of the European Union. It provides scholarships for students from outside the EU, who will study the European Master in “Global Studies” in two of the four (Leipzig, London, Vienna, Wroclaw) universities of the consortium. Additional grants are available for students from EU-countries attending courses of 2-3 months at our partner universities in the United States, Canada, Australia and South Africa.
