Research Platform of the University of Vienna “Repositioning of Women’s and Gender History in the New European Context”
Since 1989, the discussions on the history of women and gender relations (roles) in Europe have become more polyphonic. Our knowledge of national and regional histories has broadened, just as much as the problems common to Europe have changed. Within this process, the research platform established at the University of Vienna makes it possible to comment on the process, to preserve the range of memories and to initiate research which transcends national and other borders.

Collection of Women’s Estates
The Collection Sammlung Frauennachlässe aims to systematize and to assess private documents and photographs of women, couples or of children, relatives, or friends of the women. The approximately 80 estates already archived, dating mostly from the 19th and 20th centuries, contain widely differing literary genres – from household records to hand-written or typed notes, diaries, letters to official documents or literary manuscripts – and photographs.
