Negotiating Marriage. Contracts, European Legal Spheres of Reference and Social Contexts in Comparis | Print |

Marriage was a central regulatory model in modern history. A range of rights and obligations were connected to marriage, and were generally a matter of regulation and providing security. One instrument for this was the marriage contract. The contents of marriage contracts provide information on preferences and the balance of power, social and economic strategies as well as on the interactions of men and women.
