The Research platform for a Re-Interpretation of Women- and Gender history,
was organized in 2006 in the context of the increasing strength of women's and gender history in Europe. It unites researchers in this field throughout the University of Vienna and provides a supra-departmental institutional framework for a number of previously existing efforts, including L`Homme. Europäische Zeitschrift für Feministische Geschichtswissenschaft, Salon 21, and the collection of women's papers (see above), all of which make possible the preservation of women's memory and the initiation of transnational research projects.
The Lecture Series - History on Wednesday (GAM)
has been offered weekly since 2000. The spectrum of topics is as broad as the interests of the Department: GAM offers a forum for the introduction of visiting professors and researchers working on third-party funded projects at the Department, for the discussion of current research among all research staff and the Working Groups in the Department, as well as the presentation of publications and research projects. In addition GAM offers guest lectures by colleagues doing research in Vienna. Since 2001 there has been cooperation with the privately supported Institute for Research in Early Modern History (Iefn).
The Working Group in Women's and Gender History
founded in 1982, aims to make sure women and gender studies retain their place as an integral part of teaching and research in history and to establish gender as an indispensable category of historical analysis.
The Working Group in History of Science,
founded in 1992, is one of the leading institutions in its field in the German-speaking world. It includes specialists whose interests range from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, with a particular emphasis on the cultural history of knowledge and the history of universities.
