CfP: Women in rural areas: labour markets, images, policies (Event, 03/2014, Berlin); DL: 30.10.2013

Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography; Ministry for Regional Development and Transport Saxony-Anhalt

Time: 14 March 2014
Venue: Berlin, Germany
Deadline: 30 October 2013

Economically weak and remote regions in Europe are often affected by selective migration leading to a shortage of young women. On the one hand these migratory movements are closely related to rural labour market structures which are offering fewer (career) options to women than to men. On the other hand traditional gender roles and certain lifestyles have an impact on the migration decisions of young women: Urban areas are often supposed to offer better possibilities for personal development, education, integration in the labour market and the reconciliation of family and work to young women. For the regions affected by selective out-migration negative impacts on the regional image, a thinning out of social networks and an unfavourable effect on the regional economy are conceivable. CfP: “Codes” (Publication: fiber #23); DL: 06.09.2013

Deadline: 06.09.2013

fiber intends to break up binaries, investigate the subversive potential of codes of conduct existing within “the” scene, and reveal consequential exclusions, analyse neoliberal links and discuss “the” right wing’s strategies of acquisition.

Like every scene or (sub)culture “the” queer_feminist scene has its specific language and signs. In using certain rules of conduct regarding language, clothes, depictions and habits, we *) express communality and commonalities. In this, “the” queer_feminist scene also shows more and more established codes.

CfA: Materialisierungen des Religiösen (Publikation: Freiburger Zeitschrift für GeschlechterStudien); DL: 01.06.2014

Freiburger Zeitschrift für GeschlechterStudien (Web)

Deadline: 01.06.2014

CfP: Histories of Domestic Labor: Resistance and Organization (Publication: International Labor and Working-Class History); DL: 15.05.2014

A Special Issue of International Labor and Working-Class History (ILWCH) (Web), Guest Editors: Eileen Boris and Premilla Nadasen

This special issue of ILWCH will bring together historical research and writing on paid private household labor and conditions under which domestic workers in different locations and in different time periods were able to resist and organize around the conditions of their work. We are interested in the ideological constructions of this form of labor, especially in relation to the politics of race, gender, ethnicity, class, nation, and culture. The issue will explore the resistance and organizing strategies of domestic workers in the context of the history of labor organizing and the ways in which their organizing has intersected with, overlapped with, or contrasted with other models of labor resistance. We are interested in how the contours and character of the job over time and space generate Continue reading

CfP: Feminist Un/Pleasure: Reflections on Perversity, BDSM, and Desire (Publication: Feral Feminisms); DL: 15.11.2013

Feral Feminisms – ISSUE II (Web)

Deadline: 15 November 2013

What gets you off? Desire is a slippery concept, difficult to hold or describe, and certainly not consistent or interchangeable. An insatiable yearning for some is for others abhorrent and deserving of reprimand. The social complexities of perversion are therefore always in flux, influencing diverse manifestations of sexuality and its censorship. According to Freud’s early formulations on the two principles of psychic functioning, and later developed in his writings on the death drive, pleasure and unpleasure are intimately bound. Our primary drive encompasses both the unpleasure of an increase in excitation and the pleasure of its release. In other words, an individual’s relationship to unencumbered indulgence continually grapples with its denial. This fundamental tension also resonates beyond psychoanalysis, in feminist genealogies, as an ambivalence towards … read more (Website)

CfP: un_sichtbar. Geschlechterwissen in auto_biographischen Texten (Publikation); DL: 15.11.2013

Interdisziplinäre Forschungsgruppe „Auto_Biographie – De_Rekonstruktionen“ der Forschungsplattform Geschlechterforschung an der Universität Innsbruck (Web)

Deadline: 15.11.2013
