Verbot und Geschlecht. Konstruktionen, Repräsentationen und Praktiken des Weiblichen und des Männlichen.
Internationale Tagung
Die Grundlage jeder Gesellschaft bildet die Aufteilung in geschlechtsspezifische Rollen und Räume, in der sich sowohl die «natürliche» Kraft der Sexualität als auch das soziale Gebot der Reproduktion zum Ausdruck gelangen : An den mannigfachen Überschneidungen der beiden Kräfte ensteht Geschlecht.
Gesetz und Verbot konstituieren die um Sexualität zentrierten Machtverhältnisse und Hierarchien. Verbote bringen die uns bestimmenden Lebens- und Verhaltensweisen hervor und werden in unterschiedlichen Diskursfeldern, Praktiken und Medien ausformuliert : Politik, Recht und Justiz, Familie, Wissen, Wirtschaft, Religion, usw. Verbieten bedeutet gebieten, wobei die Machtverhältnisse historisch und kulturell (Zeit und Raum) jeweils unterschiedlich artikuliert werden und bisweilen sakrale Charakter annehmen können.
Zusammenleben beruht immer auf einem « contrat social », der den sozialen Raum und die individuellen Wahrnehmungen strukturiert, indem er sie entlang der dynamischen Gegensätze von Freiheit und Zwang, Verbot und Transgression, Reinheit und Unreinheit, Sichtbarkeit und Unsichtbarkeit, Ordnung und Unordnung, Ausgesprochenem und Verschwiegenem anordnet.
Der Umgang mit Vorboten ist vielfältig, auch widersprüchlich : Wir verinnerlichen sie, wir überschreiten sie, sie bringen uns auf und wir rebellieren gegen sie, mit einigen arrangieren wir uns. Sie werden uns auferlegt sowie wir anderen Verbote auferlegen, seien sie nun für uns von zentraler Bedeutung oder nebensächlich, Hemmnis oder Anstoß zum Handeln. Verbote sind in Worte gefasst, in geschriebene und ungeschriebene Gesetze, in Normen, Prinzipien und Regeln – bisweilen treten sie schlicht als alltägliche Gewohnheiten in Erscheinung, und konstituieren damit Repräsentation von Körper sowie die soziale Realität und die Erfahrung von Geschlechtlichkeit.
Mit den Repräsentationen und Praktiken der sozialen, kulturellen und historischen Vielfalt des Verbots möchte sich die Tagung in Tours auseinandersetzen. Es soll erarbeitet werden, wie Verbote über Institutionen, Alltagspraktiken, Worte und Gesten, Sprache und Imagination, die Künste und die Literatur die Geschlechterbeziehungen in einer Gesellschaft herstellen, weitertragen und auch verändern.
Als Anregung seien folgende Themenbereiche genannt :
- die sozialen Grundlagen der Geschlechterdifferenz
- die historischen und kulturellen Erscheinungsformen des Verbots
- Alltagspraktiken, die Verbote produzieren und reproduzieren
- Formen der Transgression, des Arrangements mit dem Verbot oder der Auflehnung dagegen
- die sozialen Funktionen von Verboten
- Gesetze, Tabus, Gewohnheitsrecht, Codes
- die performative oder repressive Dimension von Verboten
- die Sakralität (Gott, Natur) auferlegter Normen

At the foundation of any society, sexual division expresses both the “natural” force of sexuality and the social law of reproduction. Gender is constructed by the multiple intersections of these forces. Thus, any form of social life rests on law and prohibition which construct the powers and hierarchies at the heart of which we find sexuality. So in fact prohibition constructs the life models that rule us and apply to all levels of discourse: political, legislative, family, knowledge, economy, etc.
Living together, even without a visible connection, presupposes a “social contract” which, when it comes to sexuality and gender, gives structure to social life and to individual perception in the
dynamics of the oppositions between freedom and constraint, order and disorder, the said and the unsaid, order and disorder, etc. Law and what is forbidden, as both social necessities and expressions
of power, have taken infinitely varied shapes over time and space. Most often their efficiency has been linked to their sacred nature, religiously sacred, but also non-religious, expressed at the
collective level and at the level of the group.
Prohibitions that rule over us, that we internalize, that we transgress, that provoke our outrage, that come from the others or that we inflict on others, those we deem essential and those with which we compromise, constraining and destabilized forces, take the shape of laws, principles, rules; at times, they are merely habits that ineluctably construct the social forms of gender. They model artistic and literary expressions, and the representations of our sexed bodies.
The Tours conference will be dedicated to the social, historical and cultural diversity of what is forbidden, its representations and the practices that it entails. Our aim will be to analyze, present and
show how, in the institutions, in our daily practices, in the imaginary order, in the arts and in language, what is forbidden constructs sex-gender relations at the heart of cultures.
All disciplines are welcome to deal, in relation to gender, with the following topics:
- the foundation of social division according to gender
- the historical and cultural forms of what is forbidden
- daily practices that transmit prohibition
- forms of transgression, compromise or rebellion
- the social function of what is forbidden
- laws, taboos, customs, codes
- the performative or constraining dimension of what is forbidden
- the sacredness (Nature or God) of imposed models
Any questioning and analysis that helps to better apprehend the forms of gender, their evolution, their foundation, and their historicity, through the prism of what is forbidden falls within the scope of the Tours conference.

Au fondement de toute société, la division sexuée exprime à la fois la force « naturelle » de la sexualité et la loi sociale de la reproduction. Les croisements multiples de ces forces construisent le genre. Or toute vie sociale repose sur la loi et l’interdit qui construisent les pouvoirs et les hiérarchies au centre desquels se trouve la sexualité.
Les interdits construisent donc de fait les modèles de vie qui nous régissent et ils s’appliquent à tous les discours : le politique, le législatif, la famille, la connaissance, l’économie, etc. Vivre ensemble, même sans lien, suppose « un contrat social » qui, pour ce qui est de la sexualité et du genre, structure la vie sociale et la perception individuelle dans la dynamique des oppositions entre liberté et contrainte, prohibition et transgression, pureté et impureté, visibilité et invisibilité, droit et déviance, ordre et désordre, explicite et tacite.
La loi et l’interdit, nécessités sociales et expressions de pouvoir, se sont déclinées sous des formes infiniment diverses dans le temps et dans l’espace. Le plus souvent, leur efficience a été liée à leur sacralité, sacralité religieuse mais aussi laïque, s’exprimant tant au niveau collectif qu’au niveau du groupe.
Les interdits qui nous régissent, que nous intériorisons, que nous transgressons, qui nous révoltent, ceux qui viennent des autres ou ceux que nous faisons porter sur les autres, ceux que nous jugeons essentiels, et ceux avec lesquels nous composons, forces coercitives ou déstabilisées, s’énoncent sous forme de lois, de principes, de règles, parfois seulement d’habitudes qui construisent inexorablement les formes sociales des genres. Ils façonnent les
expressions artistiques et littéraires, les représentations des corps sexués.
C’est à ces diversités sociales, culturelles, historiques que sera consacré le colloque de Tours, à leurs représentations et aux pratiques qu’elles induisent. Il s’agira d’analyser, de présenter, de montrer comment, dans les institutions, les pratiques quotidiennes,
l’imaginaire, l’art, la langue, etc., les interdits construisent les rapports sociaux de sexe au sein des cultures.
Toutes les approches disciplinaires seront bienvenues pour traiter à propos du genre :
- des fondements de la division sociale selon le genre
- des formes historiques et culturelles que prennent les interdits
- des pratiques quotidiennes qui véhiculent les interdits
- des formes de la transgression, de la composition, de la révolte
- des fonctions sociales des interdits
- des lois, des tabous, des coutumes, des codes
- de la dimension performative ou coercitive des interdits
- de la sacralité (Nature ou Dieu) des modèles imposés
Tous les questionnements et toutes les analyses qui permettront de mieux appréhender les formes des genres, leurs évolutions, leurs fondements, leur historicité, à travers le prisme des interdits s’inscriront dans les axes du colloque.
