Here is a list of other student hostels in Vienna provided by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science. Some student hostels also run their own webservers, such as the "Pfeilheim", the "Panorama" or the student hostel "Hirschenheim" in Vienna.

How about renting a flat?

If you would like to rent a flat, there is an excellent webserver run by the Austrian student union that is connected to a database containing rooms and flats offered to students all over Austria. First, you have to click on the box called "Mietobjekt suchen" (left top). A form pops up. Then select the box close to the word "Wien (alle Bezirke)" to search for rooms in Vienna . There are boxes with numbers that allow you to restrict your search to certain districts in Vienna, if you want to. The preselection is "alle Bezirke" which means that the search includes all disctricts in Vienna. The most important box is the one close to the words "Miete incl. MWSt und Betriebskosten": Please select the monthly rent ("Miete") "von" ("from") "bis" ("to") the amount you are willing to pay (in Euros). MWSt means TVA, and Betriebskosten means additional costs. You can choose additional search criteria, but please keep in mind that the more you restrict you search the fewer results you will get. Finally, click on "Suchen" - and you will see the results of your search. Unfortunately, this service is available in German language only. If you wish to translate certain words, you can try LEO, a very nice online dictionary.

There is another, comparable webserver run by the student union at the technical university of Vienna. Again, the service is available only in German language. How to fill in the form: The numbers shown on the top of the page signify the various districts ("Bezirke") in Vienna, so you could limit your search to certain districts by selecting the respective numbers. If you do not want to restrict your search to certain districts, click on "Alle selektieren". "Miete von: bis:" means "monthly rent from: to:" Enter "200" in the field close to "von:" and 300 in the field close to "bis" to search for a monthly rent between 200 and 300 Euros. The more expensive apartments are usually rent by several students together who form a "Wohngemeinschaft = WG" ("flat-sharing community"). Finally, click on "Inserate suchen" to start the search.

Finally, the Austrian student union at the university of Vienna owns a company called "Studentenwohnungsservice Ges.m.b.H." that rents rooms and flats in Vienna and offers these rooms to students. Klick on "Angebote" (in the left frame) to get their current offers in the right frame.

Staying in a hotel:

If you come to Vienna for a very short period e.g. for a few days, it will be most reasonably to stay in a hotel or a pension. You can find some very good offers (even some cheap hotels, apartments or pensions) on the following webservers: "Nethotels Vienna" or "Hotel Online Vienna".
