Attention!

Are you looking for

an affordable accomodation
cheap student housing
cheap lodging
a studio
a room to stay

in Vienna during one of the summer months ?!?

Summer rooms (monthly rent: around Euro 210,-) are available for the months of July, August or September in the student hostel. Please ask student housing office for their current monthly rates on summer guest places. Rooms are rent on a monthly basis only i.e. one month is the minimum period!

International students: Please note that for administrative reasons, wireless LAN access is only possible for permanent residents who stay during the academic year, but not for summer students who stay for a month during the summer period only. If you find the current situation suboptimal and amendable (as the student union does), please send an email to student housing office with the subject "wireless LAN access for summer students?" to ask for WLAN access. Perhaps the office will change their policy when they realize an increasing demand. Good luck!

Therefore, for summer students, currently the only possibility to get access to the internet is by registering for a
computer room account. Such accounts are provided for a deposit (around 40 Euros, you will get the full deposit back if you bring back the key to the computer room at the end of the month, and if you sticked to the computer room rules which means you must not share your account with others etc) and a small monthly fee (ca. 25 Euros) at the beginning of the summer months July, August and September.

For detailed information please read through the following text on this page.

For application for summer residence (July, August, or September), requirements are much less rigid than for application for the rest of the academic year, and the application process is quite simple and fast - it is possible to make a reservation merely by sending a FAX to the FAX-number given below.

Summer rooms are provided to all applicants on a first-come first-serve basis (irrespectively of socioeconomic status). A considerable number of places are available for rent on a monthly basis only. For summer accomodation, the monthly rent is currently around 210,-- Euro

No special forms are required for application for summer residence. Informal requests for further information should be mailed to the email address listed below on the bottom of this page, but please read carefully through our webpages, as you will find most answers to frequently asked questions on our webpage.

There is no application fee for making a reservation for a summer room, this service is provided free of charge.

Rooms are rent on a monthly basis only and only during the months of July, August and September, which means that you should move in at the beginning of a month, and you should move out at the end of a month. Rooms are not rent on a daily basis. If you wish to arrive/leave one or a few days earlier/later, it might be possible for you to move in the day you come here. But please notify the student housing office ("Verwaltung") timely, if possible already when making your reservation. Student housing office has to confirm your request, otherwise you can only move in on the first day of a month, and you have to move out on the last day of a month! If student housing office tells you that it is not possible for you to move in earlier, please rent a room in one of the many Viennese hotels or in a youth hostel until you can move into your room in the "House Döbling".

If you arrive on a weekday, you can come to the student-housing office ("Verwaltung") Mo - Fri from 8.00 to 10.00 am and Mo - Thu also from 2.00 - 4.00 pm. If you arrive after the office closes or on a week-end, please state your approximate arrival time on your application / request for reservation. You will then receive your key by a student who will be in the student hostel around the time you come here. You will find the name and room number of the student who holds your keys on an information sheet on a blackboard in the entrance hall of the student hostel. If for any reason this should not work, you can call the "housekeeper" (extension -28 from the indoor phone in the entrance hall) who could open your room as well.

As a rule, the "International Student Hostel" ensures that a minimum of 30% of its permanently resident students are of foreign origin. During the summer months, this figure is usually even higher. It is our policy to encourage international relations and friendship between students from various countries, and we do our very best to make everybody feel welcome and comfortable.

In order to make a reservation for a summer room, please send a FAX to the following FAX-number stating your name and the month(s) you would like to make a reservation for a room.  Please add a FAX-number where you can be reached. You will receive a confirmation that a reservation has been made within a few days, if places are still available.

Re: "Reservation for a summer room"

Tel: +43 1 3695490-16

FAX: +43 1 3695490-25
NEW!!! eMail to the secretary:

"Verwaltung" means "administration" (student housing office)

If you do not get an answer within 3 days, please call student housing office (the telephone given above) to make sure that your FAX has been received. You can also send an eMail to the secretary if you have any questions, but please understand that we cannot accept reservations by eMail only, as we need your signature on a piece of paper - that's why the FAX or a letter is still necessary.

Again: For summer residence, you do not have to include a registration fee. Just send your request for a reservation to the student housing office (address given above) either by mail or by FAX. Do not forget to include information on which day and approximate time you will arrive. It takes about half an hour from the train station and one to two hours from the airport to reach the "House Döbling".

Why is it not possible to rent a room for several days or weeks and pay less than the monthly rent?

If you take a summer room e.g. for two weeks only, you have to pay the same price as for the whole month. This is because the room cannot be rent to another person for the rest of a month as over 95% of all requests are for whole months.

Why is it not possible to rent a summer room in May or June?

Please remark that rooms are available only for the months listed above (July, August and September), as this is the summer holiday period in Austria when many of the students who live in the "House Doebling" regularly move out. No summer rooms are available during any other time of the year, not even for periods shorter than a month.

How can summer students get access to the internet?

In general, there are two possibilites to get access to the internet in the "House Doebling":

1. Computer room:

The first possibility is that you register for a "computer room account". Please come to the registration that takes place during the first week of the month. You have to pay a deposit (around ATS 500,-) plus a monthly fee (around ATS 200,-) to get an account (password plus an "electronic key" that opens the door of the computer room). Then, you can use any of the PCs in the computer room (open 24h, 7days, unlimited use) during the whole month. If you did not breach the "computer room regulations", the secretary will give you back the entire deposit (ATS 500,-) when you bring back the electronic key the day you move out.

2. Wireless LAN:

The second possibility is that you rent a wireless LAN card. An increasing number of students wishes to use the internet from their own computers in their own rooms. Unfortunately, as pointed out above, this service is currently available only for so-called "permanent" residents, who stay during the academic year (October-June) - but not for summer guests. Perhaps there will be a change of policy some time in the future, but at the moment the only possibility for students to get access to the internet is via the computer room.
