This website aims to provide general introductory information on different aspects of Indian and Tibetan Buddhist art on the basis of recent scientific studies. In particular it concentrates on the so called Indo-Tibetan Buddhist art as preserved in the early Buddhist monasteries (late 10th to early 14th centuries) in the western Himalayas.
The site contains:
- Short introductions to villages and monasteries preserving early Buddhist art including references to the most important recent literature on them.
> Sites
- Picture galleries including unpublished material focusing on a site, a monument, a section thereof or an object of art and arranged by sites and monuments. These galleries often complement published articles or minor research topics.
> Pictures
- Minor research work not intended to be published in any other format.
> Material
- Every new addition will be recorded on the news page.

This website has been created to introduce and complement recent research on the earliest Buddhist art preserved in the western Himalayas and beyond. As the site is only a by-product of my research it will only grow at a slow rate. Contributors describing monuments or parts thereof or a picture gallery relevant to the site are most welcome to add to it. For information on myself please visit my home page.
