The center unites eight departments devoted to research in organismal biology through the shared interest in understanding organisms as complex systems. This common scientific goal is approached through the integrated study of temporal and structural organization, of the dynamics of physiological, developmental, and evolutionary processes, and of the neuronal, mental, social, and environmental information flows in organismal systems.

Das Zentrum vereint acht Departments aus dem Bereich der organismischen Biologie unter dem gemeinsamen Ziel, Organismen als komplexe Systeme zu verstehen und die integrierte Untersuchung ihrer zeitlichen und strukturellen Organisation, der Dynamik ihrer physiologischen, entwicklungsbiologischen und evolutionären Prozesse sowie der neuronalen, mentalen, sozialen und umweltbezogenen Informationsflüsse in den Vordergrund der wissenschaftlichen Analyse zu stellen.
