Practical information

Weather

Usually it may get warm and pleasant at this time of the year (for Austrian standards, at least), say 25 degrees Celsius during day-time. You may bring your swim-suites but walking along the lake is more reasonable (I would not expect more than 17C water temperature). Note that we are "in the middle of mountains" so it may be quite cool at night (down to 5C) so bring your jackets and umbrellas. Salzburg is known for the possibility of heavy rain-falls, at least for a few of those 6 days. See WETTER-AT ORF-Wetter ZAMG for some wheater stations. Also it is recommended to bring a pair of  "solid shoes" if you do some hiking. At least on Wednesday afternoon we plan for some tour (up the Schafberg), but we will take the "train" up there, and will have only a short walking distance.

Culture/Salzburg

It is certainly worthwhile to have a visit to Salzburg.

ROOM RESERVATION at STROBL: BIFEB can accomodate all those who are in our database listed according to single/double.

BUS: There will be a bus leaving from Vienna WESTBAHNHOF (one of the main stations) on Sunday, 22nd, at 1.30 p.m. (from the lower level, to the "right hand side" (if you stand in fron of the entrance hall). The bus is by the company "CHRISTOF-REISEN". For emergencies you may use HGFei's mobile phone number 0664 817 4942 for directions. If the wheater is fine we take a small detour via the WACHAU in order to see a nice part of AUSTRIA. We will arrive in Strobl around 6.p.m. The bus BACK to VIENNA will run on SATURDAY, 28th of May, leaving around 8.30 or 9.00 a.m., so that it should bring us back DIRECTLY to Vienna around noon, if necessary it can go directly to the Airport UVIE Vienna (arriving certainly before 1 pm.). Details can be arranged in time. The costs for the bus are NOT included in the registration fee (only 50 people are using it) and will be in the order of 20 EURO each direction (much cheaper than train or any other connection).

DIRECTION from the airport: There is a DIRECT bus from the airport to (Sued-) and Westbahnhof, running at least every 30 minutes (it takes less than one hour). WARNING: there is the Vienna city marathon taking place exactly on that upcoming sunday, so some roads are blocked. In case you are having troubles with the bus an alternative way to Westbahnhof is via Schnellbahn or CAT (almost the same, CAT is more expensive) to Landstrasse, and from there subway U6 to Westbahnhof. Also this should not take you more than one hour + maybe transfer time.

The costs at BIFEB are as follows (full board, costs per person): 56 EURO (single room), and 45 EURO (double).

WE PLAN for an excursion on Thursday, 26th of May, which is also a public holiday in Austria (Fronleichnam), with the boat and the steam-train up the mountain (so take a warm jacket, we have snow there these days but expect nice and warmer wheater by the time of the conference). The price for the excursion (approx. EURO 40,0) is not included in the registration fee of EURO 90,-, to be paid upon arrival (exemptions may apply and will be decided at the registration site, if not yet already agreed with the participants).

For special needs (food, bed-cloths, etc.) at the conference site please contact BIFEB directly on your own (identifiying yourself as participants of our conference)
