Our role as TOOLMAKERS
We see our (= NUHAG's) role as that of a toolmaker for
scientists in various branches of science doing data analysis,
signal analysis, image processing, etc.;
OUR AIMS are therefore
- Development of efficient algorithms
of
practical use in signal analysis, based on profound mathematical
methods;
To link pure mathematics with image processing
(proofs are seen as a guarantee of convergence, experimental
insight leads to mathematical conjectures)
Interaction with colleagues from various sciences
(build models, exhibit hidden mathematical structure,
and develop on this basis numerical solutions; talk
to colleagues to learn what their needs are, and their
methods)
To develop appropriate mathematical theories
(e.g. Gabor analysis, irregular sampling; covering
simultaneously the discrete, continuous, and finite case
in a unified terminology)
To show that the new tools actually work efficiently
(convince scientists from related fields that we
provide more than heuristic suggestions or theoretical
approaches)
