The Vienna-Model
Basic research on history, structure, organization, problems and legal position of some minorities in Austria started in March 1997 at University of Vienna. Results will be published continually.

Contents and structure of the Vienna-Model according to the curriculum
Research (Ist Module)
- Targets: Acquaintance with journalistic investigations; affinity and consciousness for the topic
- Content: Minorities, interculturality, migration, etc.
- Method: Working groups, guest lectures, mapping
- Activities: Intercultural atlas (by countries); cooperation with the Austrian television, radio (ORF) and print media (Falter); internet/intranet exchange between the universities; homepage
- Framework studies: Psychology and sociology of minorities
Analysis (2nd Module)
- Targets: Critical handling of journalistic phenomenon in the area of multicultural societies, minorities, etc.
- Content: Critical analysis of minority journalism; discourse-analysis: minorities in mulitcultual media-societies; journalistic criteria for minority/multicultural journalism (public communication)
- Method: Content analysis, discourse-analysis, qualitative investigation
- Activities: Writing (in cooperation with media companies and with minority organizations), internet
- Framework studies: Quantitative and qualitative methods of investigation
Media Practice (3rd Module)
- Targets: Acquaintance with practical working conditions in the media, put in action the ideas of communication minorities; learning in an interactive and international setting
- Content: Media practice
- Activities: Practice in several variations:
a) Production of documentary video films by internationally mixed teams (students from all participating countries)
b) Practical training in a media company in one of the participating countries; favorite practical training for foreigners (e.g. students from São Paulo in Austrian or other media companies; Austrians in electronic or print media in other countries etc.)
PR-Practice (4th Module)
- Targets: Analysis of the demands and conditions of practical public relations work and practising social campaigns
- Content: PR for minorities in multicultural media societies
- Activities: Preparation, realization and working up of an international symposium on the topic "Minorities in Multicultural Societies" for the target groups of science, journalism, politics, economy and non-profit organizations
- Conclusion: Working out a publication based on the formative evaluation
