A mapping model for the spatial restricted three-body problem

The three-dimensional restricted three-body problem is investigated. A numerical model is developed, using a symplectic mapping obtained by Hadjidemetriou's method. To this purpose, the perturbing function is expanded to the second order in the eccentricities and to the fourth order in the mutual inclination. The stability of the Lagrangian points L4 and L5 is examined. The model is applied to the case of the Sun-Jupiter-Trojan asteroid system (e'=0.048, mu'=0.001), with Jupiter's orbit regarded stationary. With a slight modification, the secular motion of Jupiter's orbit can be accounted for.
