Travel Instructions
Hotel numbers refer to the map of the area.
Arriving by Air:
Do NOT hire a taxi from the curb at the airport but order a taxi at the taxi counter (opposite the exit from the baggage claim area into the arrivals hall). For obscure reasons, taxis ordered there are cheaper. Alternatively, you can order a taxi in advance.
There is also a frequent and fast train-service ("CAT" - City Airport Train for EUR 10) from the Airport to Wien Mitte. From there, either take a taxi or take Underground U4 (which has a station in the same building) to Schottenring, from there U2 to Schottentor/Universität (same platform, just the other side). Take any of the trams 37, 38, 40, 41 or 42 that leave from the subterranian passage and go up 2 stops. The whole journey will take you about 45 minutes.
Alternatively, there is a bus running from the airport to Schwedenplatz. From there, take the U4 (see above)
Before using the underground, buy a 3-day travel ticket ("72-Stunden-Karte") or an 8-Day-Ticket (can be used for more than one person) at one of the counters or ticket machines.
Arrival by train:
Arrival at Westbahnhof: take Underground U6 to Währingerstraße/Volksoper and tram 40, 41 1 or 2 stops in the direction of "Ring" (for Hotels 2 & 3). For Hotel 4, take U6 to Alserstrasse and Tram 43 2 stops in the direction of "Ring".
Arrival by Car:
follow the signs to the centre until you arrive at the "Ring". Turn left on this ring road, go past the Opera, museums, Parliament, etc. until you see Votivkirche (a neo-Gothic Church with two spires) on your left. Turn left into Währinger Straße and make your way to the hotels 2 & 3. For Hotel 4, turn left into Währinger Straße but turn left again right in front of Votivkirche and immediately right into Alser Straße. Go up Alser Straße until Feldgasse (no left-turn anywhere else!), turn left into Feldgasse and circle back by another left turn into Skodagasse (one-way street!).
