Bahrain: Visit of Special Rapporteur postponed

On Friday 2 March, the Bahraini authorities postponed the visit of the UN Special Rapporteur on torture, Mr. Juan Mendez, which was scheduled from March 8 to 17. According to Aljazeera, Bahrain stated it is undergoing major reforms as a result of the recent uprising and wants the Rapporteur to “assess the progress that Bahrain has made to date”. The visit was delayed until July without any further specifications. Mr. Mendez called “to secure new dates”.
