Former UN Special Rapporteur on Torture: Practice of torture prevails in 90 percent of states
last updated Mar 14, 2012
In his new book, former UN Special Rapporteur on Torture (UNSRT) Manfred Nowak, reports of the experiences he made during his fact-finding visits while holding the mandate from 2004 to 2010. He draws the conclusion that not only the secret police of so called rogue states are practicing torture, but that even in democracies ill-treatment is in the standard repertoire of normal criminal investigation. The book "Torture. The banality of the inconceivable" is at this point only published in German.
