Tora Holmberg (Institute for Housing and Urban Research, Uppsala University) and Conor Douglas (VU University Medical Centre Amsterdam) are the organizers of a session on "Bio-objects and bio-objectification.” 17 papers will be presented in this session. |

Niki Vermeulen, Sakari Tamminen, Andrew Webster and Janus Hansen have organized a book launch of the edited volume „Bio-objects: Life in the 21st century“. This will take place on October 17 at 6 pm. Over
the past decades, we have witnessed two processes that had deep
implications on our daily lives as citizens of European states.
On the one hand, we have witnessed the rise of the life-sciences
and the emergence of innovative practices, technologies, and entities.
On the other hand, we have witnessed the emergence of the European
Communities, first, and the European Union, later. In this workshop,
we seek to explore how these two processes are linked. We wish
to start this endeavor, by “unpacking Europe”, that
is by exploring what kind of “bio-objects” enter European
policy stages, how these are ordered on these stages and with
what kind of implications. How, that is drawing on what kind of
practices and institutions are bio-objects ordered on the stages
of European policy-making? How does “Europe” reason
– and with which implications? |
