Note that the BRITE Executive Science Team (BEST) has not yet come to a final decision on the BRITE-Constellation observing program.
However more then 40 observing proposals have been submitted by principal investigators and their teams. These have been evaluated by BEST during the past 2 years. The proposals weighted by the internal ranking will be the primary basis on which BEST will choose the target fields for the BRITE-AUSTRIA and UniBRITE satellites after the commissioning phase has been completed.
The selection of the primary and secondary target fields for the initial BRITE-Constellation science operations phase will depend on the actual launch date of the first two satellites, BRITE-AUSTRIA and UniBRITE. While, the launch of those two satellites is scheduled for first quarter of 2012, a possible delay has to be considered, when choosing potential primary science target fields.
The launch of the first Polish satellite BRITE-PL is currently envisaged for as early as December 2012. The two Canadian BRITE satellites will likely be launched during the second half of 2013 possibly together with the second Polish satellite.
