Guest Lecture from Prof. Erwin Hans in the coure "Advanced Simulation Techniques in Innovation, Technology, and Health Care Management" ( 05.- 08.11.2011)

Logo ABOTIC - Befreit von BarrierenThis winter semester Associate Professor Dr. Erwin Hans from Twente University, The Netherlands  (http://www.utwente.nl/mb/ompl/staff/Hans/) is teaching together with Associate Professor Dr. Marion Rauner from University of Vienna, Austria, the PhD course on advanced simulation techniques in innovation, technology, and health care management (390049 DK PhD-M: Advanced Simulation Techniques in Innovation, Technology, and Health Care Management).

In his research, Prof. Hans has focused on different types of mathematical models applied to health care problems such as operating theatre planning and inpatient scheduling. The emerging health care management topics analyzed have always been of highest interest to his collaborating policy makers and supported them in planning for scare resources and in optimizing the usage of existing resources by considering not only economic and medical but also political and ethical issues. Both his innovative modeling approaches and his research topics chosen greatly influenced both practice and research in health care management. Therefore, it was challenging for the students to listen to his lecture on general simulation theory, complexity theory, and constructive heuristics. He perfectly interlinked the theoretical approaches with practical project he has undertaken for airports, hospitals, and police. The students highly enjoyed the most useful workshops and course assignmens.
