Sport - Identity - Ethnic Self-Definition

Ethnic groups can define themselves through sport or can be defined from the outside via sports. Catchwords such as racism, segregation or indeed integration have repeatedly played a significant role in constructing identity through the practice of bodily exertion, even leading as far as the formation of an ethnic pseudo-identity. When and where were questions of ethnic identity in the foreground? What effects did they have on the individual and the collective involved? Have these things changed today?
