Volkan Sevim is Assistant Professor of Mathematics in the School of Science and Mathematics at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. He received his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Mathematics Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His doctoral research focused on students’ understanding of quadratic functions. His current research examines learning processes involved in the co-evolution of problem solving and problem posing. Dr. Sevim has presented his research at NCTM, AERA, PME, and PME-NA. Dr. Sevim has taught upper level mathematics courses at a public high school in Charlotte, NC, for five years. In the last four years, he has been teaching mathematics education methods courses to prospective elementary teachers at university level.
