Short Bio

Dave Hewitt worked in secondary schools for 11 years, including 5 as a Head of Department, before joining the University of Birmingham, UK, where he spent 24 years working in teacher training and also with Masters and PhD students. In 2014 Dave moved to set up a new mathematics teacher training course at Loughborough University, UK, where he now teaches. Dave’s research interests centre around the theme of economy of personal time and effort in the learning and teaching of mathematics and he has given a number of invited talks in the UK and many other countries. In particular, Dave has focused on the teaching and learning of number and algebra. He has developed several computer programs, including Grid Algebra.
