Short Bio

John Vines is a lecturer at Newcastle University, based at Open Lab in the School of Computing Science. He is a designer by training, and has conducted research at the intersection of product and interaction design, human-computer interaction, social science and cognitive science over the last ten years. These days, he closely aligns his research with participatory and collaborative forms of design research and practice, engaging in a range of projects where users, citizens and communities are actively involved in shaping decisions in design projects that center on their neighborhoods, their cities and civic life.
