We aim to understand the role of microbial and viral biodiversity and processes in material and energy fluxes in riverine landscapes. We investigate the biogeochemistry of organic matter and the role of particles as microhabitats for bacteria and viruses. We strongly emphasize the necessity of better integrating virus ecology into large river ecology. The Peduzzi lab contributes to a better understanding of the microbial ecology of river systems, but also of temperate and tropical lakes and reservoirs.
