Call for Papers

We would like to invite proposals for papers and panels in the literature section. We do not suggest any particular theme or topic, but wish to see proposals where theoretical/methodological questions or theme/topic are clearly defined. Individual papers should not exceed twenty minutes in length. Panel proposals should be of approximately 90 minutes duration (for example, three twenty-minute papers, followed by ten min. concluding remarks by a discussant, the remaining minutes being left for answers and discussion).

Proposals for both panels and individual papers shoud reach the organizers no later than 31 October 2004. Proposals relating to pre-Modern (i.e. pre-Meiji) literature should be sent to Maria Chiara Migliore, while topics related to modern Japanese literature should be sent to Reiko Abe-Auestad / Anne Bayard-Sakai. Depending on the number of accepted abstracts, we would consider dividing the section into pre-modern and modern sections as it was done in Warsaw.

Presentations may be given in either English or Japanese. For individual papers, please send an abstract of no more than 300 words. For panels, please send the title of the panel and a 250-word presentation explaining the overall focus together with a 300-words abstract for each participant.

Please include in your proposal details of any special equipment required (video, slide projector, computer, etc.).
