Commentary

plios- is also known from plialeθu:

  1. bli-alleto- < *Blios, cf. Gaul. names on Bil(l)- (cf. Lejeune 1971: 59, Tibiletti Bruno 1989: 103-104, Motta 2000: 209, Holder 1896-1907: I 418-422, KGP: 148, GPN: 57-58, Lambert 1994: 141) or
  2. pli-alo-, cf. Lat. Plinius and Pliamnus (Gambari & Colonna 1986: 135, Morandi 1999: 183).

This form is an attestation of the old gen. sg. form of the o-stems on -oiso < *-osi̯o. This archaism is also attested in χosioiso and kaialoiso (Motta 2000: 208-209, Uhlich 1999: 293, Tibiletti Bruno 1989: 107-108, Eska 1995: 42-43, Eska 2009: 23, Eska & Evans 2009: 37, Villar & Prósper 2005, 175, fn. 37).

For a critique of the interpretation as a verbal form see Gambari & Colonna 1986: 136-138 (cf. Tibiletti Bruno 1969b: 179, Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 146-147, 167). See also Tibiletti Bruno 1969: 999-1016 and the critique of Campanile 1969: 211-215.
