Getting to Vienna

Up ] [ Getting to Vienna ] Travel within Vienna ]

By air: to Vienna Airport, located in Schwechat (a small town southeast of Vienna). Take an airport shuttle bus into Vienna, which brings you to the City Air Terminal at Landstrasse/Wien Mitte. From there take U-Bahn U4 (green, direction “Heiligenstadt”) to Schottenring, then U2 (purple, direction “Karlsplatz”) to "Schottentor".

By rail: to Wien Westbahnhof or Südbahnhof. From Westbahnhof take U-Bahn line U3 (yellow, direction "Erdberg") to "Volkstheater" and line U2 (purple, direction "Schottenring") to "Schottentor". From Südbahnhof take tram 18 one stop to Südtirolerplatz, then U-Bahn line U1 (red, direction "Kagran") to Karlsplatz and U2 (purple, direction "Schottenring") to "Schottentor".

By car: there are no special problems, but beware of parking restrictions (ask about them at your hotel). Normally the area around the Linguistics Department requires a pre-paid pay-and-display ticket (available from tobacconists, banks etc.) on which you have to mark your starting date and time. But, since the dates of the meeting are 2 public holidays and a Sunday, you won't need to pay. However, on Thursday 31st October, and from 4th November onwards you do need to pay and display in all of central Vienna (districts 1 to 9).
