Map of the Yukuben Area(courtesy of Google Earth) The Abif Guest Inn in Takum is our home base. (Takum is the only place on this map with electricity and now, we are told, a mobile phone network.) The north-westernmost places are on the only tarred road south of Takum (the Kashimbila road). The Yukuben area is bounded by this road in the west, the Cameroon border (pace Lutu Cameroon) in the east, and rivers Katsinoga in the north and Katsina Ala in the south. Kapya, Bete and Lufu have their own (Southern Jukunoid) languages; the language of Shibong is probably Akum, spoken mainly in Cameroon. Apart from the Kashimbila road, the Yukuben area can be reached by an unmade road via Fikyu (a Kuteb village). |
