This project aims at establishing new results in Modern Harmonic Analysis (HA) and putting them to practical use in wireless communications. The project's scientific basis is the strong relevance of recent mathematical results on the Gabor transform and related HA topics to problems in wireless communications, primarily centered about multicarrier modulation and time-varying channels. The proposed interdisciplinary research is expected to provide important new impulses to both HA and wireless communications research. It will furthermore contribute to the development of improved wireless communications techniques, which will enable the industrial exploitation of project results. The two groups involved in the project have a longstanding, proven record of successful collaboration. The project will strongly profit from synergy with the future EU Center of Excellence on Time-Frequency Analysis (EUCETIFA) that will start 2005 under the direction of the project manager.
