Toxicology

The main topic of our group is the investigation of cellular toxicity of secondary metabolites, which are produced by moulds, in particular Fusarium species. The studies should allow a better risk assessment of the cyclodepsipeptide mycotoxins enniatin and beauvericin in feed and food, and gave further insight on the mechanisms of cytotoxicity as well as on their feasible therapeutic potential.

This work was supported by the following projects:

•  FWF (Austrian Science Fund) Research Project P16045-B05: Mechanism of cytotoxic action of cyclodepsipeptides in isolated mammalian cells (until October 31 st , 2005)

•  FWF (Austrian Science Fund) Research Project P17089-B11: Detoxification of Fusarium metabolites in mammalian cells

Posters:

•  CYCLODEPSIPEPTIDE TOXICITY: ionophoric properties and effects on the metabolic state and ionic homeostasis.

•  Anticancer Activity of the Fusarium Toxin Enniatin.
