on study programs

The English Department offers two different courses of studies, the BA/MA course and the Lehramtstudium (i.e. English as teaching degree). The main difference between the two is that for a teaching degree you have to choose a second subject and complete an additional pedagogical education at the department for educational studies.

NB: All courses and lectures will be held in English only.

BA English and American Studies

A BA in English and American Studies accounts for a total of 180 ECTS; 135 ECTS are gained by doing the compulsory modules at our department and the remaining 45 ECTS need to be done as so-called ECs (Erweiterungscurricula, i.e. minor subjects – you can find all possible curricula here). If studied full-time, the BA can be completed within 6 semesters. To do so you have to pass exams in our four fields of studies (Language Skills, Linguistics, Literature and Cultural and Regional Studies).

English as Teaching Degree
