Symposia

5 Plenary Symposia will each be introduced and moderated by the indicated chair person.

  • Symposium 1: Principles of Systems Biology
    (Chair - Edda Klipp)
  • Symposium 2: Tools and Methods in Systems Biology (co-organized with BioSim)
(Chairs - Uwe Sauer and Erik Mosekilde)
  • Symposium 3: Towards Life
    (Chair - Marta Cascante)
  • Symposium 4: Yeast (co-organized with YSBN)

The SysBio2007 course will be opened by two keynote lectures, one by Hans Meinhardt and one by Leroy Hood, followed by a discussion with the course students, which will bring to the fore a number of major issues to be addressed by the upcoming generation of Systems Biologists (Chaired by Hans V. Westerhoff).

Tom Kirkwood shall deliver the Final Keynote Address to conclude FEBS-SysBio2007 (Chaired by Karl Kuchler).

Oral Presentations

Selected "Short Talks" will be delivered during afternoon sessions by principal investigators, graduate students and postdocs. These presentations will be selected by the Scientific Advisory Board on the basis of submitted abstracts.

UPDATE: All selected speakers will be notified by e-mail to submit study material in PDF-format about their talk for the students.

Poster Sessions

The poster session represents a vital part of the SysBio Course. All abstracts not selected for oral presentations will be on display as posters during the entire course to provide ample time for informal discussions among students, participants and lecturers. Sessions with provoked discussions about the posters will be organized, attention being paid to continuation of the presented research.

UPDATE: The size of the poster must not exceed the size of 70 cm in width and 100 cm in height (70cm x 100cm). The posters will by attached to the boards via pins, which will be supplied by the organizer. If you have not been notified about giving an oral presentation, you have been selected for a poster presentation.

Blackboard Teaching

At the previous course we introduced black board teaching sessions which were highly appreciated. Teachers selected for this mode will explain in the simplest possible terms and in highly interactive mode, principles and methodologies.

Computer Practicals

Computer practicals will demonstrate modern modeling and data analysis tools.

Hot-Topic Discussion sessions

General discussion sessions will be held directed at identifying scientific issues that exist with the students. Teachers will address these issues in interaction with the students.

Young Investigator Awards

All abstracts with graduate students or postdoctoral fellows as first authors are subject to scientific evaluation by selected members of the SAB. The best 3 abstracts shall receive the "SysBio2007 Young Investigator Award".
