Vienna-Oxford International Corpus of English (VOICE)

VOICE is a corpus of transcripts of spoken ELF interactions, initiated and directed by Barbara Seidlhofer and created by her, Angelika Breiteneder, Theresa Klimpfinger, Stefan Majewski and Marie-Luise Pitzl. The interactions in the corpus have been recorded, transcribed, thoroughly checked, proofread and converted to an online format in a time-, labour- and hence cost-intensive process.

We are making VOICE available to be used for non-commercial research purposes. It is in this spirit that access to VOICE is provided free of charge to all those who are interested in using the corpus for such purposes. VOICE is funded by the Austrian Science Fund and Oxford University Press. We would ask you to let us know when you publish or present work based on VOICE (recommended citation see below).

The Terms of Use described in this section refer to use of the online versions of VOICE, i.e. VOICE Online and VOICE POS Online. Hence, whenever the term ‘VOICE’ is used here, it refers to both of the aforementioned versions, but not to the downloadable XML versions, VOICE XML and VOICE POS XML, which are made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0) License.

Please read and make sure you have understood the Terms of Use below since your use of VOICE is conditional on your acceptance of these, which you will be asked to confirm.

In case there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact voice@univie.ac.at or the VOICE project director Prof. Dr. Barbara Seidlhofer (mailto: barbara.seidlhofer@univie.ac.at).
