T’oung Pao (Early volumes)

T’oung pao ou Archives pour servir à l’étude de l’histoire, des langues, la geographie et l’ethnographie de l’Asie orientale (Chine, Japon, Coree, Indo-China, Asie Centrale et Malaisie) is one of the oldest international journals of Chinese studies/sinology founded in 1890.  The first co-editors-in-chief of the journal were Henri Cordier and Gustave Schlegel.

Ever since the beginning in 1890, T’oung Pao has been published by Brill in Leiden. The journal (ISSN:0082-5433) is currently edited by P.-E. Will (Collège de France), Martin Kern (Princeton University), and Paul W. Kroll (University of Colorado)

The early volumes published until 1937 are available freely via gallica (with corrected counting of series 1 and 2) and/or the Internet Archive (with inconsistent counting of series 1 and 2 and some duplications).
NOTE: Volumes published after 1900 no longer available via gallica <Jan 2011> – except vol. 28 (1931) <Feb 3, 2012>.

The list includes only volumes that are freely available – and Vol. 16 is (currently) not among them.
