Short Bio
Martin V. Butz holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA). Since October 2004, he has been back at the Department of Psychology III (Cognitive Psychology) at the University of Würzburg. Butz has been studying anticipatory mechanisms with various computational modeling approaches for nearly ten years. He has been collaborating with linguists, neuroscientists, and cognitive psychologist in order to further the understanding and the conceptualization of anticipatory representations and mechanisms. He is the co-founder of the “Anticipatory Behavior in Adaptive Learning Systems (ABiALS)” workshop series and has published and coedited six books on learning classifier systems and anticipatory systems. Currently, Butz is leading his own junior research group, which is funded by the Emmy Noether Programme of the German Research Foundation, focusing on the development of cognitive control architectures that model actual human behavior and reach new levels of behavioral flexibility and adaptability.
