Mens sana in corpore sano – in line with this motto the University of Vienna also emphasised sporting events in the anniversary year 2015. Members of the University changed the laboratory coat for running shirts or competed in the International University Boat Race.
On 12 April 2015 the 32nd Vienna City Marathon (VCM) took place and the University of Vienna entered the race with 650 runners. Students and employees ran side by side or as a relay team under the motto "Raising questions since 1365."
At the end of June, the 1st International University Boat Race was held at the rowing centre Ruderzentrum an der Neuen Donau. It featured women’s and men’s races over a sprint distance of 350 metres. On a floodlit race track, teams of European universities, each consisting of eight athletes and one cox, rowed for victory. The strong teams from the renowned British Cambridge University and the multiple winner of the German University Championship, RWTH Aachen, also competed. Both teams of the University of Vienna raced against well-established rowing teams from the whole of Europe and achieved podium finishes – the women’s eight finished in second place and the men’s team in third position.
