Alvaro Hacar

The astronomer Alvaro Hacar is an international expert on radioastronomical observations using state-of-the-art infrastructures such as ALMA. His research focuses on the study of the gas and stellar dynamics in molecular clouds and the origin of stars in the solar neighborhood. In his new ERC-StG project EMERGE (“Emergence of High-Mass Stars in Complex Fiber Systems”), Dr. Hacar and his group will investigate the role of filaments in promoting the formation of especially massive stars. Specifically, he plans to use ALMA observations to quantify the relative contributions of various types of interactions within filamentary networks during the formation of high-mass stars and clusters across the Milky Way.   Note: Grant transferred to the University of Vienna (2020)
