"My research deals intensively with different varieties of German and the connection between language and identity. The dialect we speak can lend new facets to our identity. I would like to explore this awareness of our language and its effect on the individual together with my students." (Verena Sauer)

* Language history (specialising in Early Modern High German)
* Variation linguistics (specialising in dialectology/perceptual dialectology)
* Gender linguistics (specialising in gender-sensitive communication)
* Discourse linguistics (specialising in (historical) discourse on language attitudes)
* Cognitive linguistics (specialising in frame semantics)
