Vienna Taiwan Lectures October till December 2018

This winter, the Vienna Center for Taiwan Studies hosts two  special experts: First, we have our first-ever speaker from Shih Hsin University in Taipei, Hong-chi Shiau. Secondly, we continue the cooperation with National Kaohsiung University in the South. Previously, all Vienna contacts have been in the North. Just recently,  the list of Taiwan partner universities of the University of Vienna became “South-.bound” with the inclusion of National Chiao-Tung University in Hsinchu.. . With NUK guest speaker Lin Ya-huei, we also hope to strengthen our expertise in the literature field. In addition to that the Vienna Center for Taiwan Studies hosts a conference together with the International Center of Taiwan Studies at NTNU in Vienna end of October on Beyond Beauty: Looking Through the Lens of Environmental Documentaries at Taiwan in the World (中)看見臺灣:從環境紀錄片的觀點看世界中的臺灣. The program is continuously updated and available at http://tsc-conference.univie.ac.at. A detailed invitation will be provided soon.

Furthermore, one master class will be offered in English: Environment Conciousness in Taiwan: How „Beyond Beauty“ became a Box-office Hit and other environmental films and literature. Please refer to the course catalogue of the University of Vienna.

ISA International Guest Lecture: Gwyn Campbell – The History of the Indian Ocean World over the longue durée in the light of human-environment interaction

4th Cátedra Friedrich Katz Conference in 2018

The 4th Cátedra Friedrich Katz Conference in 2018 under the title Walking Through Walls, Transgressing Frontiers. Border Regimes and Phantom Borders in North America and Central Europe since 1848 is a joint venture by the University of Chicago and the University of Vienna.

When: 18/19 October 2018. Where: University of Vienna.

Prof. Dr. Martina Kaller, Dr. Berthold Molden and Mag. Laurin Blecha, all from University of Vienna, kindly invite you to contribute with you conference paper (October 2018) or related topics to an edited volume to be published in 2020.

Am Zentrum für Globalgeschichte der LMU München sind 5 Forschungsfellowships für das Sommersemester 2019 ausgeschrieben. Diese haben eine Länge von 1-3 Monaten und können innerhalb des emseters flexibel ausgelegt werden. Die Ausschreibung richtet sich an alle Qualifikationsgruppen, es werden aber speziell auch erfahrenere KollegInnen ermutigt sich zu bewerben.
