Introduction to "R"

Empirical researchers from all (scientific) fields of work (medicine, social and economic sciences, finance) but also for people involved in BI/reporting interested in the basics of R and RStudio.

Voraussetzungen: Interest in statistical programming, Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows (creating directories, copying files, using a simple texteditor). Programming experience in other languages is NOT necessary but can be helpful. This course is designed for R (and programming) novices.


Zielgruppe: Empirical researchers from all (scientific) fields of work (medicine, social and economic sciences, finance) but also for people involved in BI/reporting interested in the basics of R and RStudio.

Inhalte:
• Why R? R compared to other programs
• Installation, first steps, global settings
• Typing commands instead of clicking buttons: scripting basics, common mistakes and how to avoid them
• Data types in R (vectors, data.frame objects, lists)
• How do I get my data from other formats into R? (and vice versa)
• Functions (math, statistics, pdf and cdf for common distributions used for testing hypotheses), looping and control flow.
• Advanced data management (merge, recode, random sampling, missing values)
• Graphics and how to manipulate them (colors, axes, annotations), creating "publication- ready" graphics
• Getting help with your code (the help()-function, online resources, useful webpages dealing with R- programming topics)
