R - Advanced

R is an extremely powerful programming language and free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. R is widely used among statisticians and data scientists all around the world. This workshop focuses on inferential statistics with R.

Voraussetzungen: Knowledge of R for data management (file I/O, recoding variables, calculating variables, basic data types and useful functions). All the required topics are covered in the two-day "Introduction to R" workshop. Please note that a sound knowledge of the topics covered in the introduction will be taken as given.

Zielgruppe: empirical researchers from all (scientific) fields of work (medicine, social and economic sciences) interested in inferential statistics (testing hypotheses) with R.

This workshop focuses on the following topics:
• Testing hypotheses
• Revision: what is a p-value? one-sided vs. two-sided problems
• Probability distributions used in inferential statistics
• Selected tests (parametric and nonparametric tests)
• Loops in R (and how to avoid them)
• Simulation
• apply-functions
• ggplot2, dplyr, data.table
