The Nganasan are the most northern Samoyeds and live in the Krasnojarsk Region on the Taimyr peninsula. According to the 2002 census, there are 834 Nganasan living in Russia, with 380 of them speaking Nganasan.
The following Nganasan texts are readily annotated. We offer them here both in html (for easy viewing in your browser) and in pdf format, but you can also listen to a recording of the story. The picture show our informants.
We use the Charis SIL font, which is downloadable for free. You will get the best results for the html files if you have that font installed on your computer, but other Unicode fonts (such as Gentium or Lucida Sans Unicode which can be found on most PCs and Macs) contain almost all characters needed and will do as well.
