Title Tent pitching and a Trefftz discontinuous Galerkin method for the acoustic wave equation
Abstract On locally refined meshes the time-step size of time-marching schemes is restricted by the smallest mesh size, due to the CFL-condition. Tent pitching schemes produce a mesh in space-time domain using tent shaped objects, allowing variable time step sizes in order to circumvent this restriction. As a model problem, we consider the first-order acoustic wave equation in arbitrary space dimension. The presented Trefftz discontinuous Galerkin method poses a way to advance the solution on the tent pitched mesh, employing test and trial functions that are space-time piecewise polynomial solutions of the wave equation.
