Title DPG methods: Residual minimization using discontinuous functions
Abstract Least-squares finite element methods find solutions that minimize a residual. Discontinuous Petrov Galerkin (DPG) methods are least-squares methods whose residual can be computed using discontinuous finite element functions. The norm in which the residual is minimized is an inexact dual norm which is easily computable. This talk introduces DPG methods, gives an overview of the known basic results pertaining to these methods, and some pointers to ongoing research.
