Title A Novel Approach to Dimension Reduction in Enzyme Kinetics
Abstract Biological models are often complex and the ODE systems used to model them tend to be high dimensional multiple time scale systems. Simplifying these systems is a necessary step to better understand their dynamics and behaviour. In this talk we will present a novel approach to analysing multiple time scale systems, inspired by concepts and methods of tropical geometry. In the context of the specific problem of justifying dimension reduction we apply it to the Michaelis Menten model of enzyme reactions and prove the existence of one-dimensional, attracting, invariant slow manifolds.
