### Seminar in the framework of the PDE Afternoon

28.11.2017 Type seminar Time 16:00 - 16:30 Place University of Vienna, Faculty of Mathematics, Oskar-Morgenstern-Platz, 1, Vienna (map) Room From 15:00 to 15:45: Hörsaal 2 (ground floor) - from 16:00 to 17:00: WPI Seminarraum (8th floor) Speaker Lorenzo Portinale (IST Austria) Title Optimal Transportation and Random Matching Problem Abstract In this talk, we will give an introduction to the theory of optimal transport, starting from the original formulation given by Monge in the 18th century until the modern version of the problem in terms of transport plans (Kantorovich). We will then introduce the optimal matching problem between $n$ points, where the theory of optimal transport can play an important role for the study of the asymptotic behaviour of the minimum cost; the main results are shown, with particular attention to the case of the gaussian samples in $\mathbb{R}^2$ (based on a work of M. Ledoux, 2017) and to some interesting (still open) problems about it.
