ViCAS: Vienna Center for Advanced Studies
ViCAS is a new interdisciplinary centre dedicated to advancing innovative research in all fields and to encourage dialogue that can bridge national and disciplinary borders. The University of Vienna’s Center for Advanced Studies offers space for a year of deep, undisturbed research at the heart of one of Europe’s most stimulating cities.

Women in Science
The University of Vienna is strongly committed to raising the visibility of women in research. Each year, the university takes part in the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which was first initiated by the United Nations to raise awareness of the gender gap in STEM disciplines. Our participation aims to inspire, scrutinise and demonstrate how we can achieve equal access to and participation in science for women and girls.
On 11 February 2025, the university highlighted profiles of female academics working at the Faculty of Life Sciences, the CeMESS centre, the Data Science research network and the interinstitutional Max Perutz Labs. This spotlight showcases the range of initiatives that promote equal opportunities and the visibility of women in science.
