In the latest World University Ranking by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the University of Vienna ranks 152nd. The University of Vienna remains the highest-ranked Austrian university in the ranking.
The ranking is based on evaluations in various thematic areas. The University of Vienna improved its performance in the areas of international students, international research network, faculty/student ratio and academic reputation. Points were deducted in areas such as employer reputation and citations per faculty.
In this year's QS subject ranking, the University of Vienna made it into the top 100 in 17 subjects. The highest-ranked subject at the University of Vienna remains Communication & Media Studies in 15th place (2024: 10th place) – this puts the University of Vienna among the top 5% worldwide in this subject.
